A menstrual cup is a reusable and cost-efficient substitute for the bad old sanitary pad and tampon 🍅

There has always been something about the things we are introduced to at the initial stages of a process /transformation, sometimes we are so influenced that we don’t ever re-think about it, we keep doing because we were introduced to it starting off, eventually it becomes a part of our system without us actually choosing it.

It takes a different kind of spine to stop, think, re-evaluate and then act, especially when it comes to something like periods and the use of non-biodegradable elements associated with it

While I agree, in a country like India, it’s a win when you can afford sanitary pads in the first place, making only 36% of women, users of sanitary napkins during menstruation, majority of others turn to cloth, cotton, or even leaves.

I believe this would be read by some of that 36% of women who are privileged enough to take a stand for this, here is one stat that stuck with me —

We single-handedly produce 12.3 billion menstrual waste which is non-biodegradable (sanitary pads/tampons ) every year which is estimated to be 9000 tonnes in weight (that is how much 400 full-grown elephants would weigh 🐘)

As women who are going to shape the future of the country, we have a responsibility.

Responsibility to act consciously, make smart and sustainable choices, using sanitary pads or tampons in your period is not healthy, not for you, not for the Earth.

There is a plethora of studies showing how sanitary pads are harmful in the long run and also rash prone making them unfit for use. You think you got to live with it, as a part of being a woman?

Well, that’s not true, you can choose a better option a conscious one by taking that one step out of your comfort zone, by updating the legacy software your mind is running on, by re-learning and breaking the patterns you have been hardwired to believe.

I switched to cups almost 2 years ago, I can never go back to pads again and this is not only because they are better for the environment but a better option overall.

In this new period, we have to re-learn and re-evaluate our actions before it becomes too late to go back. If you have the slightest hesitation or questions, feel free to drop by my Twitter, I’ll be more than happy to talk to you 😀
